Austin softball team drops playoff opener, will play Thursday

The No. 6 seeded Austin softball team lost 12-2 in six innings at No. 3 Northfield in a Section 1AAA quarterfinal Monday.

The Raiders scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control immediately. Austin’s Hannah Rasmussen had a two-run single in the fourth to make it an 8-2 game.

Austin had six hits and two errors in the loss.

The Packers (4-16 overall) will now take on No. 7 seeded Red Wing in an elimination game in Todd Park 5 p.m. Thursday.

Austin, which has now lost nine straight games, lost 11-10 to the Wingers April 12. The winner of the Austin-RW game will play another elimination game 7 p.m. Thursday in Todd Park.
