Mayo to host bereavement camp for children

Mayo Clinic Health System’s Hospice in Albert Lea and Austin will host a bereavement camp for children Saturday, May 21.

The camp, Helping Hearts Heal, is for children grades kindergarten through twelfth, who have experienced the death of a loved one. The activities will help participants understand their feelings and show them they are not alone in their grief.

Helping Hearts Heal activities planned so far include: fun and games, memory activities, group discussion, climbing wall, and art activities.

The camp will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., registration begins at 9 a.m., on Saturday, May 21 at the Brookside Education Center, 211 W. Richway Dr., Albert Lea. For more information or registration materials call the Hospice Office at 507-377-6393. Registrations are due May 7.

Because of the generosity of Kiester for a Cure and many individuals donating to Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice, Helping Hearts Heal is offered free of charge.

Women’s Health Care symposium is May 7

To keep you on the right health track, you can attend the 17th annual Women’s Health Care Symposium from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on May 7 at the Historic Hormel Home, 208 Fourth Ave. N.W., Austin. Mayo Clinic Health System providers from Austin will provide health information on transforming community care, your bone health importance, understanding mental health, and community health and wellness options for you.

Presenters include:

—Steve Waldhoff, Associate Administrator — Transforming community care and improving your care options

Lori Fitton, certified nurse practitioner, Orthopedics — Bone Health Clinic for improved bone health

Sheeba Rahman, M.D., Psychiatry — Understanding mental health

Sandy Anderson, Director, Mower Refreshed — Health and wellness options in Mower County.

The symposium is worth 2.1 contact hours and has been designated to meet the Minnesota Board of Nursing continuing education requirements — check with your profession to determine if this symposium meets criteria for continuing education. A light breakfast will be served.
