Hjordis (Hjordy) Markell Johnson Mlinar passed away on April 6, 2016, at Good Samaritan Comforcare in Austin.
Hjordy was born on July 9, 1926, to Clarence Osborne and Helga Matilda Larson Johnson in Milan, Minnesota. She graduated from high school and attended the University of Minnesota where she met her future husband, Dale.
Hjordy married Dale Grant Mlinar from Spring Valley, Minnesota, in 1945. Dale had his dental practice in Austin until he retired. They had three daughters, Karyn, Gretchen, and Markell, for which she was very proud, as well as her beloved grandsons, Grant and James.
She loved a game of golf or bridge, collecting antiques, and enjoying coffee with friends. She was a great hostess and conversationalist as well as a talented watercolorist, calligrapher, voice in the church choir and a hand in the bell choir.
Hjordy had legions of friends through her associations with her church, PEO (Chapter CU), Collectors’ Club, Floral Club, Music Club and Marathon Bridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harley; and her husband, Dale.
She is survived by her daughter, Karyn (Richard) Morris of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her daughter, Gretchen (Romey) Thompson of Des Moines, Iowa, and their son, Grant (Thressa) Thompson of Lansing, New York; and daughter, Markell (Allen) Matakovich of Burnsville, Minnesota and their son, James.
A memorial service for Hjordy will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the First Congregational Church in Austin, Minnesota. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to a charity of choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Comforcare for their kind service to her in her final days.
