Robert Jerome Kottner, 74, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday morning, March 5, 2016, at the Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.
He was born May 21, 1941, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Alfred and Jean (Rudesill) Kottner. He attended school in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1959. Robert proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a medic and was awarded the Bronze Star. After his discharge, he returned to Austin and worked at Streator’s in Albert Lea and later with Weyerhaeuser in Austin, retiring form Weyerhaeuser after 40 years. He was a good trap- and skeet-shooter and competed in shooting competitions in Minnesota, Iowa, Arizona and other states. He was a member of the Cedar Valley Conservation Club and the Moose Lodge. Robert also followed sports in Minnesota, especially the Twins and Vikings.
Survivors include his sister, Jacqueline Kottner; two brothers, William Kottner and Jim Kottner all of Austin, Minnesota; a nephew, Jesse (Shannon) Kottner of Eagan and his children, Natalie and Annaliese; also many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Jean Kottner.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Military Honors by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216 will follow the service.
