Muriel L. Wagner, 86, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 20, 2016, surrounded by loved ones, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Muriel was born on May 27, 1929, to William and Ina (Enright) Hemann in Austin. She was the youngest of three children. After graduating from St. Augustine High School, she began working in the office at Hormel Foods and waited for her high school sweetheart, David Wagner, to return from his U.S. Army station in Japan. They were wed July 2, 1949, in Austin.
Muriel became a homemaker and she and David raised five children. David passed away in 2007, but she remained in their lovely family home of almost 64 years. She loved working in her flower garden and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, reading, big band music and card games with her family. Muriel will be remembered for her tastefulness and elegance. She was devoted to her faith and her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include daughters, Susan (Tom) Peterson, Big Bend, Wisconsin; Mary Beth (Tom) Green, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; Amy (Peter) Wangen, Austin; sons, Terry (Barb) Wagner; Tim (Pam) Wagner, Austin; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and her sister, Joyce Mallory, Austin.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, Kenneth Hemann.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 12 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes and Father Paul Nelson officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
