Dorothy Gilma Nelson, 88, of rural Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, March 25, 2016.
Dorothy Gilma (Aldahl) Nelson was born March 31, 1927, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Clarence and Minnie (Tveite) Aldahl.
On Nov. 26, 1949, she was united in marriage to James “Jim” Elmore Nelson in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Dorothy was a registered nurse at Hormel for 42 years, retiring at the age of 62. She and her husband, Jim, farmed together in Freeborn County, Oakland Township, their entire marriage. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with special friends making lefse, playing cards, dancing, golfing, snowmobiling, and going out for dinner.
Survivors include her children, Dennis Nelson, Austin, Judy (Mike) White, Blooming Prairie, Dean (Laureen) Nelson, Kellogg; grandchildren, Christine (Cody) Ulrich, Owatonna, David White, Rochester, Laura Nelson, Calumet, Iowa, and Sarah (Jason) Vagt, Kasson; step-grandchildren, Lisa Tilkes, Rochester, Lindsey Tilkes, Rochester, Nathan Tilkes, Rochester, and Andrew Tilkes, Cedar Falls, Iowa; great-granddaughter, Kya; sister-in-laws, Lorraine Aldahl, Onalaska, Wisconsin, and June Nelson, Adams, Minnesota; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Nelson; parents, Clarence and Minnie Aldahl; brother, Kermit Aldahl; brother-in-law, Kenneth Nelson; nephew, Ken Aldahl.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Interim Pastor Lisa Meshke officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
