Mower County pulling plows at 4 p.m.; I-90 closing this afternoon west of Albert Lea

Mower County is pulling plows from the roads at 4 p.m. today.
Conditions have deteriorated quickly in the rural areas and roads are drifting in quickly.
Interstate 90 will also close west of Interstate 35 at Albert Lea at 2 p.m. because of hazardous driving conditions, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The Austin, Albert Lea, Blooming Prairie, Adams and LeRoy clinics all closed, but the urgent care clinics remained open in Austin and Albert Lea
MnDOT and the Minnesota State Patrol made the decision because I-90 is closing further west due to blizzard conditions.
The closure will remain until further notice and additional closures may be necessary. Motorists are advised not to travel until conditions improve and MnDOT and the Minnesota State Patrol open the road.
Motorists should plan accordingly. When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or sentenced to 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
