Hormel Foods Corp. gave its employees a sneak peak of an upcoming film a few days early on Monday night.
The Grocery Products segment at Hormel Foods helped bring “Race,” an upcoming biographical sports-drama film on runner Jesse Owens, for an advanced screening at CineMagic 7 Monday night.
“Race” is the first feature biopic film about Owens, a black athlete who won a record-breaking four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games.
“With February being Black History Month and with Jesse Owens being such an important African American role model, we wanted to be able to share his story with our employees. We hope they enjoy it,” said Antoine J. Destin, food service area manager and HAARG president, in a press release.
The film opens nationally on Friday. The opportunity for the early screening came about through a partnership with the Grocery Products segment, the film’s ad agency and Hormel African American Resource Group (HAARG). There was a campaign centered on targeted digital ads that offered coupons on select Hormel Foods products like Hormel chili, Skippy peanut butter and the Spam family of products, according to Destin.
Destin was pleased the company was able to secure the early screening.
“Hormel Foods is a great place to work, and we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive culture,” Destin said in the release. “Events like this support the diversity and inclusion goals and objectives for our company.”
