Six people were arrested after gunshots were reportedly fired from a vehicle early this morning on the 800 block of 11th Street Northeast in Austin.

Mower County Dispatch reported the shots fired from a vehicle at 12:03 a.m. while Austin Police Officers were already en route to a disturbance at that address.

When officers arrived on scene, they saw a Black Honda Civic leaving the scene, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.

An officer recognized the name of one person in the vehicle and went to the 1600 block of Sixth Avenue Northwest, where he knew that person often stays. The officer observed a vehicle on the 1900 block of Sixth Avenue Northwest, which matched the description of the Honda Civic from 11th Street Northeast.

Officers pulled the vehicle over and arrested five people — four males and a woman — at gunpoint. A .22-caliber black revolver was thrown out of the vehicle and located underneath the right rear door. Four of the five suspects arrested have Austin addresses.

The Civic was towed to the Mower County impound in order to obtain a search warrant.

An additional person from the 800 block of 11th Street Northeast, not the car, was also taken into custody. One suspect had an outstanding warrant for aggravated robbery in Illinois.

One suspect suffered a head injured and was treated at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin, but police did not know the cause of the injury.

As of this morning, all six people were being interviewed about the incident, and the Mower County Attorney’s office was reviewing the case for potential charges.
