DULUTH — Minnesota Rep. Erik Simonson says he plans to run for the Senate seat to be vacated by the DFL’s Roger Reinert in Duluth.
Reinert said in a statement Sunday that after serving more than a decade in public office, he’s ready for the next chapter in his life and won’t seek re-election in District 7.
Simonson plans a formal announcement Tuesday, but said in an email that he will bring his progressive and sustainable policy positions and legislative seniority to the Senate.
Simonson says he had no plans to challenge Reinert for the DFL endorsement had he decided to run for re-election.
