ST. PAUL — Gov. Mark Dayton is ready to release his to-do list of public construction projects.
Dayton was expected to lay out his plan Friday for borrowing cash to build new facilities and other public works proposals. The Legislature will have its own plans for a so-called bonding bill when it returns in early March.
The governor has hinted it will eclipse $1 billion, given a list of requests across the state triple that size. He says it’s the right time to go big given the sound economy and low interest rates.
Those packages generally focus on upkeep for aging public structures. But Dayton also says he’ll provide funding to address a dispute over the constitutionality of Minnesota’s sex offender program. A judge has said Minnesota needs to build some less-restrictive facilities.
