This weekend is looking like it will be a good one to read a good book, drink a hot beverage and stay indoors.
After a high of 21 today, temperatures are expected to plummet to bitter lows overnight and not warm up much until next week.
The National Weather Service says Saturday, Sunday and Monday will see high temperatures below zero with lows reaching about minus 16 overnight Saturday and Sunday with wind chills of minus 20 to minus 40.
Sunday’s high is minus 8, according to NWS, with others saying the high will only be minus 12.
Some forecasts call for air temperatures as low as 20 below overnight Saturday and Sunday.
The temperatures will warm up to a high of 8 on Tuesday and 16 by Wednesday.
Though nothing had been issued as of press time, the weather service said wind chill advisories or warnings would likely be issued later.
The cold already caused the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center to cancel Saturday’s Dammen Nordic Ski Race.
