David Madison reportedly told several people in the weeks leading to his death that Michael Francis McIntosh wanted to harm him because Madison was engaged in a sexual relationship with McIntosh’s girlfriend, according to court records released Monday morning.
McIntosh, 37, was charged Monday morning for killing the 39-year-old Madison, whose body was found Nov. 1 in the Cedar River along Highway 105 south of Austin.
Court records also show that a medical examiner found Madison died of “non-accidental blunt head trauma and ligature strangulation.”
Mower County deputies arrested McIntosh on Friday, and he appeared in court at 11 a.m. Monday facing charges for second-degree murder in connection to Madison’s death.
Dressed in an orange jail uniform, McIntosh appeared in court Monday morning looking calm and speaking clearly as he answered basic questions from Judge Fred Wellmann.
Madison, 39, was killed over Halloween weekend, and his body was discovered the morning of Nov. 1 in the Cedar River along Highway 105 south of Austin. A medical examiner confirmed it was a homicide.
Deputies had narrowed McIntosh down as a suspect early in the investigation after receiving information, Amazi said. McIntosh and Madison were associates and had at one time been friends.
McIntosh was arrested Friday at the Mower County Jail and Justice Center during a check-in for a separate, meth-related case.
Previously, witnesses had helped the sheriff’s office narrow down the last time Madison was seen alive around 10 to 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 31
On Nov. 5, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigated a residence in the 400 block of South Main Street that was tied to the homicide case, from between noon and 7 p.m., taking photographs and measurements of the property as well as collecting evidence from a trash bin.
A second home at the corner of Eighth Street Northeast and Third Avenue Northeast was also taped off by the sheriff ’s department. It too had been related to the case.
McIntosh is being held on unconditional $1 million bond or $500,000 bond with conditions. McIntosh faces a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison if convicted.
The investigation is still ongoing, and law enforcement is asking anyone with any information to call 507-437-9400.
