Local organizations are partnering for this year’s Czech It Out dinner fundraiser in November to support an array of activities, including for youth and veterans.
This year’s proceeds once again will support activities sponsored by the Austin Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans organizations. For the first time, a portion also will go to the Austin Noon Kiwanis group that supports numerous youth projects in the Austin area.
Czech It Out offers a traditional Czech meal of roast pork, potato dumplings, gravy, sauerkraut, corn, kolaches — a Czech pastry — and chocolate cake. The event will feature door prizes and silent auctions along with a grand-prize drawing for a timed, free shopping spree at the Austin Hy-Vee Food Store, with the winner potentially collecting up to $1,000 in merchandise (some restrictions apply).
Austin brothers Mike, Dave and Dan Ruzek are the organizers of the Czech It Out benefit dinner, starting it in 2012 to benefit Mower County veterans with disabilities in honor of their late father, Carl, who was a disabled World War II veteran. With benefits in 2012 and 2014, Czech It Out has raised nearly $6,600 for VFW and DAV activities.
