MINNEAPOLIS — A fraternity at the University of Minnesota has been suspended for over a year due to multiple student conduct code violations.

The university says its decision to suspend the Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter stems from a complaint in March regarding harm to a person, hazing, disorderly conduct, possession or use of drugs or alcohol, underage drinking, and theft, property damage or vandalism. The Office for Student Conduct and Academic Integrity and Student Unions found the chapter responsible for the violations in June.

The decision was appealed twice, but the chapter ultimately was suspended until June 2017. The suspension likely will be followed by extended probation and education requirements.

The national headquarters of Sigma Alpha Epsilon said Thursday that it’s considering strong sanctions for the chapter.
