Carol Agnes (Reinartz) Penkava, 74, of Lyle, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, at her home north of Lyle.
She was born Jan. 26, 1941, in Austin, Minnesota, to Andrew and Josephine (Miller) Reinartz. She grew up in the Austin area and was a graduate of Austin Senior High School.
On Nov. 28, 1959, she married Donald Penkava at St. Augustine’s Parish.
Carol worked at Hormel Foods for 42 years as a secretary from 1958 to 2001 upon her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, crocheting, and needle work. Carol spent much time tending her flower gardens with her dog, Bandit. She also faithfully cheered on the Vikings for many years even though they never won a Superbowl for her.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Miguel) Garcia, Ames, Iowa; son, Allen (Mary) Penkava, Austin, Minnesota; sister, Maxine (Donald) Antl, Owatonna, Minnesota; brother, Marvin (Janet) Reinartz, Longmont, Colorado; sister-in-law, Jean Reinartz, Rockford, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Irene Noble, Austin, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Christopher, Joshua, Michelle, Melanie, Mercedes, and Joanna; one great-granddaughter, Ariahnna; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents Andrew and Josephine; one brother, Richard; and two sisters: Bernadine and Lorraine.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home with a CCW Rosary at 4 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the funeral home on Monday. A service will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Casket bearers will be Michelle Penkava, Melanie Penkava, Joanna Garcia, Mercedes Garcia, John Penkava, and Darwin Noble. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery, Austin.
