Talks, poaching display set for Game & Fish building; Rain garden added to entrance

The Game & Fish Building is ready for the 2015 Mower County Fair.

Exhibitors will include Izaak Walton League Austin Chapter 10, Mower County Soil and Water Conservation District, Friends of the Hormel Nature Center, Mower County Pheasants and Habitat Forever, The National Wild Turkey Federation, and Ducks Unlimited.

The Jay C. Hormel Nature Center will give the following impromptu presentations at the Game & Fish Building during the fair:

Tuesday, 2–6 p.m.: Owl Talk — Meet Guka the live Barred Owl, learn how to talk like an owl, and discover tools they use to survive. Larry Dolphin, Presenter

Wednesday, 2–6 p.m.: Dragonflies — from dragon-like nymphs to beautiful flying mosquito hawks. Their story will be told with live examples and a theatrical transformation that may occur to all who attend. Julie Champlin, Presenter

Thursday, 2–6 p.m.: Let’s Hear it for Herps! — Meet the Nature Center’s live cold-blooded animals. Taylor Miland and Tom Butusov, Presenters.

Friday, 2–6 p.m.: Monarch Magic from Egg to Migration — This incredible journey from egg to caterpillar to butterfly is highlighted with live examples. Marie Anderson, Presenter

Steven Chihak, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation officer, will be at the Game & Fish building Friday and Saturday. He will be bringing the DNR “Wall of Shame” trailer. The “Wall of Shame” is a display of deer mounts taken illegally in Minnesota.
