A child suffered non-life threatening injuries after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle Tuesday.

At about 5:15 p.m., officers responded to the 2000 Block of East Oakland Avenue after the 6-year-old was hit by a 42-year-old woman driving the vehicle. The driver said she was driving westbound on Oakland when the small child appeared out of nowhere on his bike. The driver reported she tried to stop but hit the back tire of the bike.

A witness, a second driver going eastbound on Oakland, said the child rode out of a driveway into the street without looking, and said she thought the driver of the vehicle did try to stop. The child fell into the street and was not wearing a helmet.

A parent of the child came and brought him back into the residence, and Gold Cross workers came to check on him. He was eventually driven to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin by a parent.

The child suffered pain on the top of his head. Officers noted a bump on his head and a bruise and scrapes on his leg. No citations were issued.
