Abigail Moore Johnson, 94, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, Au. 22, 2015, at St. Marks Lutheran Home.
Abigail Moore Johnson was born in Estherville, Iowa, July 21, 1921, to George M. and Ora Moore. She attended elementary school in Jackson, Minnesota, and graduated from Jackson High School in 1939. The following fall she entered Macalester College in St. Paul and graduated in 1943 with a bachelor’s degree in English.
She taught senior high English courses in the high schools of Pemberton, Mabel, and Northfield before going to Austin High School in 1949 where she taught for 22 years. In 1962 she was married to Arthur Johnson of Buffalo, Minnesota, who was teaching business and economics at Austin High School and later at Austin Community College. They were married at Moorland Farm, Jackson, Minnesota.
She belonged to Chapter CU, P.E.O.; the Ladies Floral Club and the Collectors Club. She was a member, an elder and a deacon of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Abigail is survived by Art’s nephew and niece: John (Sue) Bates, Austin, Minnesota, and Punta Gorda, Florida; and Bonnie (Russell) Grgich, Sun Lakes, Arizona. Surviving cousins are Marita Talbott, Eugene, Oregon, Warren Nelson, Sioux City, Iowa, Kirsten Bedford, Yountville, California, and Eleanor Dunning, Dana Point, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her infant brother, Judson; and cousins: Philip Shockly, Dean Nelson, Russell Albenus, and Robert and Richard Johnson.
Friends may visit with the family at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, 2015. There will be no reviewal. A memorial service will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, with the Rev. Michael Olmsted officiating. Memorials are suggested to Westminster Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Jackson, Minnesota.
