The Wild have re-signed defenseman Christian Folin to a two-year contract worth $1.45 million.
Folin, 24, was a rookie last season and played in 40 NHL games, recording two goals and eight assists. He appeared in one of the team’s 10 playoff games.
The Wild originally signed Folin in the spring of 2014 as a collegiate free agent after Folin played at Massachusetts-Lowell.
Folin had been a restricted free agent with limited rights.
He’ll likely begin training camp in September battling with former Gopher Mike Reilly as the sixth defenseman on the team.
Scrimmage ‘fun’
The Wild’s top prospects made their presences known during Saturday’s scrimmage — which Team Green won 6-3 over Team White at Xcel Energy Center.
Aside from Joel Eriksson Ek’s two points, Mike Reilly delivered two assists — including a pass across the front of the crease to former Gophers teammate Sam Warning.
“I kind of know his game really well,” Reilly said of Warning. “So I know he can straight up fly. I didn’t really see him at first. I kind of figured someone would be coming back down there, and luckily he was there. He buried it and put it in the back of the net pretty hard.”
Alex Tuch — the Wild’s first round draft pick in 2014 — also scored.
“I thought it started slow for a few of them and then they got going as the game went on, which is expected this time of year,” Wild assistant general manager Brent Flahr said.
The Wild will hold their second and final scrimmage of the development camp on Tuesday night at Xcel Energy Center.
“We don’t expect miracles this time of year,” Flahr said of Saturday’s scrimmage, “but it was positive and fun to watch.”
