PORTLAND, Maine — Officials say it could take three to four months for a fractured neck bone suffered by former President George H.W. Bush to heal.
The 91-year-old Bush took a tumble at his summer home in Kennebunkport on Wednesday. He’s hospitalized in fair condition.
Bush spokesman Jim McGrath says the 41st president fractured his C2 vertebra, the second one below the skull, but it didn’t impinge on his spine or lead to any neurological deficits.
Dr. William D’Angelo, a neurosurgeon who is treating Bush, says Bush suffered a “significant injury” but he’ll make a full recovery. He says that could take three to four months.
