A 38-year-old Austin man is accused of tackling a 10-year-old at Sumner Elementary School Thursday.

Police Capt. Dave McKichan said the suspect was cited for fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct after he allegedly tackled the boy to the ground to take a hat.

According to McKichan, the man got into a dispute with a group of children and teens at Sumner over the lunch hour Thursday, during the school’s summer lunch program. The suspect allegedly took a hat from one of the children when the 10-year-old stole it back and tried to run away.
