Samuel Belinski, 96, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at his home.

Sam was born in Gorham, North Dakota, on Feb. 15, 1919, to Nick and Paraska (Haverlock) Belinski. He attended school through the eighth grade and went to work for CCC when he was 16. Sam worked on several farms in western North Dakota. On Aug. 17, 1939, Sam married Agnes E. Smisek in Hazelwood, Minnesota. They moved to Austin and Sam worked for Hormel Foods Corporation. In June of 1944, Sam enlisted in the US Army and served his country by being in the signal corps in Italy and Switzerland. After his military service, Sam came back to Austin and Hormel and worked in the shipping department for over 40 years. Agnes died on April 16, 1999.

Sam loved to travel around the world with Agnes; especially around Europe. They both were avid square dancers. Sam also enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He had a love for the land. Sam was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Austin American Legion and VFW.

Sam is survived by his daughter, Marjorie (Jerome) DeFrang of Plainview, Minnesota; son, Daniel (Joy) Belinski of St. George, Utah; grandchildren: Keven (Priscilla) DeFrang, Karey (Vicky) DeFrang, Kris (Kim) DeFrang, Kurt (Bridget) DeFrang, Kraig DeFrang, Shelli (Nathan) Yearsley, Jeremy (Mary Beth) Belinski, Jaimi (Brandon) Miles, Brittany Belinski; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, William (Loretta) Belinski of Billings, Montana; sisters: Marcella (Victor) Paluch of Los Angeles, California, and Marie Basaraba of Columbia Falls, Montana.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; wife Agnes; and a sister Pauline Tabbat.

A mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Steffes officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with the Austin American Legion Post No. 91 and VFW Post No. 1216 providing military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Mayer Funeral Home and again an hour prior to the funeral mass at the church.
