A 21-year-old Austin man is in jail after he allegedly stole a car, got into two crashes and was arrested walking away from the scene.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said the suspect allegedly stole a 1992 Nissan Centra and was spotted by the car’s owner at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
The suspect collided with a Jeep from Michigan on Interstate 90 heading east a short time later, and he ended up crashing the car at 14th Street and Fourth Avenue Southeast. He and a passenger were spotted by police at the 400 block of 13th Street Southeast a short time later.
The suspect is in jail for motor vehicle theft, driving after revocation and failing to stop at an accident scene, according to Krueger.
The case has been forwarded to the Mower County Attorney’s office.
