Council to start next year’s budget talks

The Austin City Council will start the budgeting process this week.
Council members will discuss the 2016 budget and tax levy during its work session Monday. The city’s 2015 levy is $4,325,000, though city officials expect to get about $140,000 in taxes from the expiration of a tax increment finance district next year.
The council could consider increasing the city’s levy to help staff and maintain city services, as at least five city departments have requested more employees this year to keep up with citizen demand.
Garage sale sign policy, several rezoning questions and grant money for the Turtle Creek 1 sanitary sewer project will also be addressed at the council meeting, which starts at 5:30 p.m. Monday inside City Council Chambers.
