Marion R. Hoban, 96, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Our House Assisted Living in Austin.
Marion Rosamond Hoban and her twin sister Marcella Rosalie Hoban were born Dec. 16, 1918, to Martin and Rose (Lightly) Hoban on the family farm near Oakland, in Moscow Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota. She attended school at Oakland and graduated from Austin High School, and graduated from Teachers College at Mankato State College. For a number of years she taught school in the Brownsdale and Waltham areas. Marion also worked at the Strong Advertising Company in Austin.
Marion and Marcella were avid gardeners and became master gardeners. They were well known in the area for the raspberries and tomatoes that they grew. The Hoban sisters were also some of the original founders of the Austin Farmers Market. For many years they owned and managed the Hoban Family Century Farm in Moscow Township.
Marion and Marcella were members of the Oakland Baptist Church and of the Austin Camera Club. They traveled extensively throughout the “lower 48” of the United States. During the winter months they would travel to Lutsen Mountain for cross country skiing, often spending the holidays there. They also enjoyed trips to the Wabasha area to observe the eagles. Marcella and Marion were big supporters and fans of the Minnesota Twins over the years. For eighteen years they lived at the St. Marks Apartments before moving to Our House Assisted Living in 2014.
Marion was preceded in death by her twin sister Marcella on Nov. 14, 2014.
