Karla Kubesh

Activities/hobbies  

At Austin High School I am involved in National Honor Society, DECA, Youth Leadership, Link Crew, the Scarlet Cord Program and Wind Ensemble. I have been a member of the Austin Packer Varsity Dance Team for the last four years and was a captain this year. Out of school I take piano lessons and enjoy spending time with my friends and being mentored at the Austin Veterinary Clinic.

Awards/recognitions  

I was selected to be a member of the All-State Dance Team this year, as well as for Big 9 Conference Honorable Mention. The last four years I have received the Spotlight on Scholarship award for academic achievement while participating in a sport.

Thoughts on your educational experience so far  

As a 12th-grader at Austin High School, my education has obviously been shaped greatly by the school and its teachers. I feel lucky to have been supported by some of the most encouraging and intelligent teachers throughout the years and feel as though I’ve been well prepared for what my future has to offer. I can’t believe that my high-school career will be over in a matter of months.

Plans for the future  

As of right now I’m still deciding where I would like to attend college, but I plan on majoring in animal science and hope to one day become a veterinarian.

Thoughts about your experience with the Rotary club  

Being a part of rotary for those few weeks was a great experience. It was a fun way to meet new people that care about our community from around town and everyone was so friendly. I learned a lot of new things about the projects and the people within our community during my time there. I will miss having this opportunity every week as it was something that I looked forward to every Monday. I want to thank Rotary club for the great experience they have shared with me – what they are doing in this community is truly amazing.

I am involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, Austinaires, Tennis, Math League and Knowledge Bowl.

I have received the “A” Honor Roll 2011-2015, High Distinction, Minnesota American Legion Girls State 2014, Minnesota All-State Orchestra 2014 and Big 9 Scholar Athlete.

Thoughts on your educational experience so far

I have truly enjoyed my time at Austin High School. It has gone by fast, but I have grown so much, both academically and personally. I believe my education has prepared me well for whatever the future may hold.

Plans for the future

Next year, I plan to attend college to earn a degree in nursing or pharmacy.

It has been an honor to be able to experience the Rotary club. I have learned so much just by conversing with members. It is so inspiring to see so many people come together to improve our community and world.
