The No. 4 seeded Austin girls basketball team had its season end in a 62-51 loss to top-seeded Kasson-Mantorville in the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester Saturday.
The Packers (13-15 overall) were within 16-14 early on, but KM closed the first half on a 22-6 run to take a 38-20 lead into the break.
Austin was within 13 with 9:30 left, but it couldn’t get within striking distance.
“We had a stretch were we probably shot too quickly and they were able to turn that into transition points and get momentum,” Austin head coach Todd Johnson said.
Johnson said the Packers showed a good will to battle back and he’s proud of the way his team finished the season off by going 12-8 in its last 20 games.
“I’m really proud of the kids with the year we had,” he said.
Austin scoring: Ruth Koang, 14; Awenia Nywesh, 11; Alex Hansen, 8; Shayley Vesel, 5; Amber Hansen, 4; Jaidyn Bastian, 3; Kelsey Sederquest, 2
