FALCON HEIGHTS — A Falcon Heights woman is charged with attempted second-degree murder after allegedly trying to strangle her 8-year-old daughter.

Jozetta Ranay Byrd also was charged Wednesday with domestic assault by strangulation and first-degree assault.

According to a criminal complaint, police were called Sunday after the girl’s grandmother brought her to a Minneapolis hospital.

The girl told police her mother sat on her and choked her until she passed out Saturday night. She said her mother was praying and said something about the devil when she woke up.
