A 33-year-old Austin man on probation for felony drug charges is back in jail after officers found a methamphetamine pipe in his car.
Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger said the suspect was arrested after 3 a.m. Friday once police saw him leaving a house known for narcotics issues in northwest Austin.
The suspect allegedly led police on a high-speed chase through the neighborhood and fishtailed into snowbanks at times before officers stopped him at the 1000 block of Ninth Street Northwest.
According to Krueger, the suspect tried to leave the scene with a black briefcase but was stopped by police. K-9 unit Sonic was called to the scene and signaled potential narcotics in the car. Though officers didn’t find drugs in the car or on the suspect, they did find a meth pipe in the car’s center console.
The man was arrested for driving without a license and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, staff at the Mower County jail found the suspect tested positive for meth once he was booked. Krueger said the case has been forwarded to the Mower County Attorney’s office.
