Letter: Tennis can’t thrive at YMCA

It is time the Austin YMCA listen to tennis players’ rights. Proper etiquette and USTA [United States Tennis Association] court code rules are not being enforced.
The growth, advancement and development of the lifetime game of tennis cannot occur in this Austin YMCA environment. The management, Mr. Ted Maxfield, Ms. Kristi Staci, Mr. Andy Nelson, Mr. Jon Caporale and Mr. Roger Boughton, do not care about tennis to offer a quality program.
We have a list of 120 petitioners that was shown to Mr. Ted Maxfield Friday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. He didn’t seem to care. He was told he could get a copy from attorney Bob Maus.
The TRX, soccer on the court, dirty court and locker rooms have made me drop my membership effective Feb. 13.
Many of us were paying membership dues because there was tennis at the Austin YMCA; it is too bad when you are restricted from use or hindered. Maybe you should drop your membership the rest of the indoor season. That’s the way to get them to listen and take action.
I have left the Austin YMCA because it is dirty and the tennis isn’t run right. I’ve tried to do volunteer work, those five mess with it. The management has my qualifications: seniors 60s rank No. 4 singles northern section, USTA and USPTA [United States Professional Tennis Association] certified, 24 years of tennis camp training. If any tennis players wish to obtain a copy of the list, I refer you to Mr. Bob Maus’ office.
Bruce Westrum,
Austin
