The No. 5 Hayfield boys basketball team had its season end on a 62-54 loss at No. 4 Pine Island (16-11 overall) in the Section 1AA West quarterfinals Thursday.
The Vikings (10-16 overall) trailed 11-2 to start the game, but they closed the first half on a 10-0 run to take a 24-22 lead at the break.
Hayfield was led by Aaron Anderson, who had 15 points.
“With five new starters the expectations weren’t very high,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said. “We definitely played well and I think we exceeded a lot of people’s expectations. We came a long way and Cam [Rutledge] and Taylor [Ausrud] are two mainstays who will be missed. They worked their tails off and were good leaders on the team.”
