The Mower County Farm Bureau hopes the county can alleviate taxes for farmers over the next few years.
Farm Bureau representatives spoke with the Mower County Board of Commissioners Tuesday to ask the county to keep in mind at agricultural land valuation.
Ag land taxes have made up a large percentage of total county taxes in recent years due to ag land’s skyrocketing prices.
Yet economists predict ag land valuation will soon decrease as ag production slows.
“The next year or two is going to be very stressful and economically troubling, I have no doubt,” Marlin Fay, president of the Farm Bureau, told commissioners.
Commissioners said tax valuation issues are handled on a state level.
