Gasner has made a verbal commitment to play baseball at Iowa Lakes Community College, a Division II Junior College.

Gasner expects to compete as a pitcher with Iowa Lakes, although he will get the chance to try out as a hitter too. Gasner is glad to have the decision over and done with before baseball season begins.

“[The decision] has been bothering me for awhile and it’s been bothering my mom too,” Gasner said. “It’ll be nice to have her off my back. It’ll let me have a lot more fun this season. My plan was to be committed before the season and it’s a big weight of my chest. It feels really good.”

Gasner said that Iowa Lakes plays in one of the better conferences for Junior College and he’s glad that he will be playing at a place that is a little less than a two hour drive from Austin.

Gasner was on the Austin Post 91 baseball team that was one of the last three teams playing in the District tournament over the summer and he’s hoping the Austin Packer baseball team can have a successful spring season this year.

“I’m really excited and I know some of the other guys are excited,” Gasner said. “Legion gave us some confidence over the summer and I’m really excited about what we can do. It’ll be one of our better years that we’ve had. Hopefully the program can continue to grow.”

Iowa Lakes went 19-23 last season.
