Richard Allen Brown, 85

Richard Allen Brown passed away in New Canaan, Connecticut, on April 2, 2014, at the age of 85.

Mr. Brown was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Austin, Minnesota, to George and Iva Brown. Dick, or “Brownie,” as all his friends called him, excelled in high school sports, winning a state championship in men’s basketball in 1946 and achieving all state in football and basketball. He was also later inducted into the Austin High School hall of fame.

After graduating from Deerfield Academy, Mr. Brown went on to attend Dartmouth College. There he was a member of Beta Theta Phi, the Sphinx Society, and the starting kicker for the football team still holding university records to this day. Following graduation from Dartmouth in 1952 with a major in history, Mr. Brown went on to proudly serve as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.

After returning home from duty overseas, he met Lynn Johanson Brown. The two were married in 1956 in San Francisco, California, Lynn’s hometown. Dick worked first in the office equipment business in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and then in financial services and financial consulting on the East Coast. He and his family lived in Darien, Connecticut, for 54 years. Dick was an active Dartmouth alumnus and regional Dartmouth club president (1960-1961). He was a long-time member of Wee Burn Country Club and an avid golfer. In addition he was a member of the Darien Men’s Association.

He was a successful financial consultant, Korean war veteran, and dedicated family man.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lynn; his daughters: Suzie Barit of Blairstown, New Jersey, and Jodi Brown of New Canaan; and his grandchildren: Alex of Houston, Texas, Tyler of New York, New York, and Taylor of Los Angeles, California.
