The Austin girls hockey team was shutout for the first time since Dec. 6 as it lost 4-0 to Rochester Mayo in Riverside Arena Thursday.
The Spartans (6-15-1 overall, 4-9-1 Big Nine) scored two quick goals in the first six minutes of the game and they were able to keep Austin in check for the rest of the night. The Packers (10-11-2 overall, 7-9-2 Big Nine) were out-shot 63-21 in the loss.
“They came out really fast. We started out not as fast as we normally do,” Austin head coach Brett Vesel said. “I thought overall, the girls played a good game. We give up a lot of shots, but we take pride in giving up not a lot of good shots.”
Mara Overby had 59 saves for Austin, which has just two games remaining in the regular season.
“The goal right now is just to get better, compete and do the things we need to do to improve,” Vesel said.
