Mower County Dairy Princess applications now being accepted

Mower County dairy is getting a new advocate, and local girls get the chance to apply for the position.

The Mower County American Dairy Association is seeking candidates to participate in the 2015 Mower County Dairy Princess contest and the Mower County Milkmaid program. Coronation of the new Mower County Dairy Princess will take place at the 62nd annual banquet on Friday, April 10, in Adams.

Dairy Princess candidates must be at least a senior in high school and not yet 24 years of age by July 1, 2015.

The candidate or her parents must be actively engaged in the production of milk in Mower County for sale to a licensed plant during the current year. A candidate also qualifies if she or her parents are employed on a dairy farm in a dairy-related capacity. Mower County dairy royalty are paid for their appearances and receive college scholarships.

Girls in third- and fourth-grades, whose parents or guardians are Mower County dairy farmers or are employed on a dairy farm, are eligible to become Mower County Milkmaids.

Girls who are avid consumer and promoters of dairy products may also apply. Milkmaids can participate at dairy promotion events throughout the county. This is a Mower County program and there is no further competition beyond the county level.
