It was a milestone year in more ways than one for the 36th Lyle Area Cancer Auction.

After surpassing $2 million raised to fight cancer Friday night, the auction continued setting records throughout the weekend.

In all, the auction raised a record $215,000 — up from more than $180,000 last year and topping the record of $200,000 in 2013.

“Totally surprised,” Lyle Area Cancer co-chair Larry Ricke said.

But that was only the tip of the iceberg, as most LAC events had banner years.

“The biggest thing that sticks out to me right is just all the records that we broke this year,” co-chair Teresa Slowinski said.

June’s Halfway to January Cancer Bash raised a record $12,290, with an emotional presentation Saturday after founder Tracy Schilling passed away in November. Slowinski said it was great to honor Schilling’s memory.

“She will be with us at the cancer auction every year,” she said.

The Harley raffle also set a record with more than $28,000. Greg Read won the Harley, which Slowinski said was nice for the recently married Lyle resident.

“It’s a pretty nice wedding present,” Slowinski said.

Other events to break records included: Farmboy Barbecue, the auction kitchen, Quilting for a Cure broke a record, Spinning for a Cure and Thrivent Financial’s events — Oktoberfest and Red, White & Pink.

Though totals weren’t available, Slowinski expected the auction and cash donations to be close to records too.
