Florence LaVerna Engle, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at St. Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter, Minnesota.
Florence was born on May 23, 1928, in Waterloo, Iowa, to William and Lula Overton. She graduated from Rochester High School. Florence married Keith Engle on May 18, 1946, at the United Methodist Church in Rochester, Minnesota.
Florence and Keith moved to Austin in 1948. They had two children, Marcia and Kathy. While living in Austin, Florence worked at Cleveland Hardware, Buttreys, Stevenson’s and she was retail manager at Wallace’s Clothing Store. In 1982, they moved to a home along the river in Wabasha, Minnesota. They moved back to Austin in 1994 and from 1994 to 2004 they wintered in Donna, Texas. In 2009, Florence moved to The Cedars of Austin where she lived for four years. She has lived at the Old Main Village in Mankato for the last year until moving to St. Benedictine Living Community where she lived for one week.
Florence was a member of First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed time with her family most of all. On occasion, she would try her luck at a casino. When her hands were able, she enjoyed crafts with friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Keith; her parents; brothers: George and Walter Overton; and son-in-law Gary Stroup.
Florence is survived by her daughters and son-in-law: Marcia Stroup, Mankato, Minnesota, Kathy (Craig) Folven, East Bethel, Minnesota; grandchildren: Michelle (David) Schooff, Mankato, Minnesota, Ryan “Rudy” Stroup (Holly Rosevold), North Mankato, Minnesota, Kari Lazarescu, Holman, Wisconsin, Ken Folven, St. Michael, Minnesota, and Katie (Devlin) Roy, Minneapolis, Minnesota; great-grandchildren: Hannah, Luke, Alexa and Lydia Lazarescu, Brenna and Mitchell Folven, Gavin, Hayden and Brooklynn Roy, Samson and Abram Stroup.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Marilee Benson officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the mortuary for one hour before the service.
