The Austin girls basketball team beat Byron (6-9 overall) 50-46 in Ove Berven Gym Thursday.

Shayley Vesel had 15 points for the Packers (6-9 overall) and Jaidyn Bastian made a big play down the stretch as she made a steal and converted it for a lay-up.

Austin held the Bears to four points in the last eight minutes of the game.

“They had a six-five girl and Ruth did a good job on defense on her. Alex Hansen and Sydney Murphy also played good defense and it was a good team win,” Austin head coach Todd Johnson said.
