Vierkandt paces Packers to win at Kasson-Mantorville

The Austin boys basketball team pulled away late to beat Kasson-Mantorville (5-4 overall) 62-55 on the road Monday.

Levi Vierkandt carried the scoring load for the Packers (5-4 overall) as he poured in a career-high 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting. Gach Gach added 17 points for Austin, which won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

“I’m happy with the win,” Austin head coach Kris Fadness said. “It wasn’t the prettiest, but we made plays when we needed to.”

The game was tied at 43-43 and Vierkandt hit a big three-pointer and set up Gach for a score down the stretch.

Austin forced 22 turnovers and it committed just 12 turnovers.
