The No. 7 ranked Athletics (4-0 overall, 4-0 SEC) took a 47-13 lead in the first half.

“I think our kids really got into tonight,” LP head coach Justin Morris said. “It was a test for us against a perennial conference power and probably our biggest rival. In the first half we played our best half of basketball we’ve played in a calendar year.”

LP freshman Brooke Walter had 21 points, but her older sister, Courtney Walter, a junior, made some big plays as well.

“I thought Courtney Walter did some unbelievable things for us with her energy and passing,” Morris said. “She led the way by being unselfish and she was tenacious defensively. She makes us go when she makes the kind of great passes like she made tonight. Then we’re a special basketball team.”

LP scoring: Brooke Walter, 21; Sarah Holtz, 16; Madison Truckenmiller, 8; Courtney Walter, 7; Bethany Strouf, 6; Kendal Truckenmiller, 2; Kristie Fett, 2; Lucy Nelson, 2; free throws: 8-for-12
