The Lyle-Pacelli girls basketball team tried its luck against a Class AAAA team and it was equal to the task as it topped Hastings (7-2 overall) 63-39 in the Marantha Christian Holiday tournament Monday.

Junior Sarah Holtz scored 21 points and freshman Brooke Walter added 15 points for LP (8-0 overall), which is ranked No. 7 in Class A.

“This one means a lot for our program and the kids stepped up to the challenge,” LP head coach Justin Morris said.

LP led 22-4 six minutes into Monday’s contest.

LP will take on No. 5 ranked Marantha Christian (5-1 overall) Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the tournament title game.

“It’ll be one of the biggest regular season games in our program’s history,” Morris said.
