HAYFIELD — The Hayfield boys basketball team knew it would have to play well inside to beat Tri City United on Tuesday. So that’s exactly what the Vikings did as they beat the Titans (7-5 overall) 68-57 in the Hayfield Holiday tournament title game.

Hayfield junior Aaron Anderson tallied a career-high 30 points to go with 11 rebounds and Taylor Ausurd racked up 11 points and seven rebounds.

“Taylor held his own inside and Aaron had unbelievable game,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said. “A lot of times when Aaron plays against bigger posts he struggles, but it was the complete opposite tonight.”

Anderson scored 20 of his points in the first half as the Vikings (6-5 overall) jumped out to a 33-21 lead at the break.

“I just had to find the openings and shoot,” Anderson said. “I tried to get a body on them when the ball went up and box out.”

TCU got as close as 42-35 in the second frame, but Cam Rutledge hit back-to-back jump shots and TCU never got within striking distance again.

Rutledge had 19 points, five assists and seven rebounds in the win and he said Anderson played a huge role.

“You can’t describe how Aaron was tonight,” he said. “His presence down low opened shots for all of us. I had two shots from the free throw line because of him.”

Adam Younge had three points, five rebounds and seven assists in the win for Hayfield.
