The Austin Veterans of Foreign Wars is holding a Czech dinner fundraiser this weekend to support a variety of organizations.
On Saturday a Czech It Out Meal benefit will be offered by the Austin VFW from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the newly remodeled VFW Clubroom at 300 Fourth Ave. NE. Tickets for the dinner are $15 and include entry into the prize drawings. Tickets will only be sold prior to the event, and are available at the VFW or by calling Jim Bednar at 507-440-8571. No tickets will be sold at the door.
Pork roast, potato dumplings, homemade sauerkraut, corn and kolaches—a Czech pastry—will be served at the dinner. Door prizes also will be drawn at the dinner.
“The VFW is very active in the community, supporting numerous organizations,” said Scott Wiechmann, Commander of VFW Post 1216 in Austin, in a press release. “Events like this help us provide the funding to support our veterans, their families and many other organizations in the Mower County area.”
The Czech dinner fundraiser is similar to a meal organized two years ago by Mike, Dave and Dan Ruzek, to support Mower County’s chapter of the Disabled American Veterans organization. That event raised more than $2,600 for the local DAV. For more information, call the VFW at 507-433-6039.
