The Riverland Community College men’s basketball team didn’t play their best, but they played well enough to win as they beat Luther JV 65-60 on the road Tuesday.

RCC (3-0 overall) didn’t get its offense going early on and it trailed 34-29 at the half, but it turned things around in the second half.

“This is a game we probably wouldn’t have won a few years ago,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “We’re young and it was good to to play this poorly and get a win.”

RCC is starting five freshman this year and point guard Dearionte Hudson, who is from Germantown, Wis. had 20 points and three steals, Robert Parker, who is from Bloomington, Minn., had 16 points and four steals and Ricky Landers, who is from Wawatosa, Wis., had eight points and six blocks.

Hayfield grad Jeremy Stuart had four points and Faribault grad Nate Emge had three points and four steals.

“This is the most talent that I’ve had as a coach at Riverland,” Koenigs said. “We’ve got some high flyers, we’ve got some guys that can wreak havoc in the backcourt and we’ve got guys that can shoot.”
