The Packers (0-3-2 overall, 0-2-1 Big Nine) took a 1-0 lead in the game’s 23rd minute when Kallie Bumgarner scored on a put-back, but that was about all the offense Austin could muster.

The Falcons tied the game when Mary McCoshen lobbed a shot in from about 25 yards out in the 37th minute and McCoshen gave the Faribault (1-4 overall, 1-2 Big Nine) the lead for good when she knocked one in near the net in the 57th minute.

Austin finished with a flurry, but it wasn’t able to score the equalizer.

“It shouldn’t be just for the last 10 or 15 minutes, we should start being aggressive when the referee blows his whistle in the game,” Austin head coach Enrique Camarena-Corzo said. “We scored a goal and then we stopped playing in the first half. We didn’t create any more opportunities.”

Camarena-Corzo took Chloe Summerfield out of the net with 17 minutes left in the game and moved her to forward. The move nearly paid off as Summerfield had a shot drift just wide to the left of the net with 5:08 left in the game.

Summerfield finished with four saves and Jora Buthun had one save in relief.

“We try to keep Chloe at goal keeper, but I think unfortunately she might play more forward. When we put her there it changed the game’s rhythm completely,” Camarena-Corzo said.
