Austin Utilities is celebrating its newest well and reservoir with an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26.

General Manager Mark Nibaur said the open house is meant to inform residents about utility operations, as well as how the Energy Park reservoir works.

“It just gives us an opportunity to communicate an achievement Austin Utilities has to offer, water to the community for now and into the future,” he said.

The Energy Park well is the eighth well in Austin and operates at about 1,500 gallons per minute to fill the 2 million-gallon reservoir. Utilities officials estimate the well will be around for more than 50 years.

The open house will be held at 1908 14th Street Northeast inside Energy Park. There will be tours of the new well facility, a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m., a ceremonial start of the well pump, samples of water from the tap and free ice cream bars. Nibaur said the well has been running for some time.
