Two local softball players play on USSSA 16B National Championship team

A couple of local softball players were part of the 16U Rochester Royals summer softball team that recently won the 50-team USSSA 16B National Tournament in Kansas City.

Grace Mindrup of Hayfield and Sydney Murphy of Austin played on the squad. Mindrup was named tournament MVP.

The Royals wrapped up the championship when they beat TEAM Nebraska 4-2 in the teams’ third matchup that day. The Royals had lost to TEAM Nebraska 5-2 and beat them 5-2 earlier.

The Royals, who had 11 players, had players from Rochester Mayo, Kasson-Mantorville, Rochester Lourdes Stewartville and Rochester Century, went 6-0 in pool play, which put them in the Final Four.
