Gabriel Jarrod, 10, of Hayfield was chosen from more than 37,000 nominees nationwide for making a positive impact in his community.
In an effort to give his community a place where children can play, Gabriel is raising funds to purchase and install new playground equipment for two parks in Hayfield. Through various fundraisers, Gabriel’s goal is to raise $20,000. He has currently raised about $4,000.
He received money from Kohl’s Department Stores Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program, which honors nearly 200 volunteers with $1,000 scholarships toward higher education.
Winners are chosen based on initiative, leadership, generosity and project benefits and outcome. National winners will each receive a total of $10,000 in scholarships, and Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf.
Donations can be made by PayPal using Gabriel’s email, gabe@operationfunhayfieldmn.com, or by mail to Hayfield City Hall. For more information, visit Gabriel’s website at www.operationfunhayfieldmn.com, or his Facebook page at www.facebook.com/pages/Operation-FUN/187854374696915.
